First of all, thank you to all of you who voted for us on the Startup Nation site. We will find out the first week of May if we made it into their directory.

Summer is coming but not fast enough! Our Keppietails (ponytail holders) are making a lot of little girls happy as the weather gets nicer and pigtails and ponytails start making their reappearance.

Keppies Barrettes 2nd Annual Valentine Party Benefitting Alex's Lemonade Stand

Keppies holds many fundraising parties throughout the year. Last year the girls had a blast, dancing and singing and doing the Heartfelt Keppie Quality activities. This year we have added barrette making to the mix. Each child will get a Valentine Keppie hair clip with admission and they will be able to create their own braided barrette. Girls and moms love braiding the barrettes together. Many moms who grew up in the 80's are quite nostalgic of the days when they made braided barrettes with their girlfriends. The children will be able to choose from a variety of ribbons and charms to make their Keppie a unique one-of-a-kind barrette that they can be proud of.

Wow, what a year! We started our business with selling our braided barrettes to friends and family and now we are in over 16 stores. We now sell, headbands, clips, kits, t-shirts, and "keppietails." According to An Wang, You have to have your heart in the business and the business in your heart. With hard work, determination and a ton of creativity, we have launched our online store (www.keppiesbarrettes.com). We would not have been able to do it without the love and support of so many people. Our children are so proud to have mom's who make Keppies and they have been with us through the whole process. Our mission of helping girls to see their strengths from within has been an ongoing theme of our company. With one idea, our dream came alive and so can yours. We have balanced hard work and play to make this a business that comes from our hearts and hope our love can transcend to others. Importance of play

Today, there is so much pressure for children to "do it all." We live in a world where children are over scheduled, academics are overemphasized and play has been diminished from our children's world. Parents are stressed and overwhelmed trying to keep up with these high expectations. How can we slow down our world? How can we take the time to sit on the floor and play with our children? We need to make our time with our children sacred and enjoy ever minute with them. As a child therapist, I see many children who are not connected to their parents. The parents do not enjoy playing with them and are unable to understand their world. Through helping parents learn the tools of play, relationships are strengthened, behaviors can dramatically improve and their nervous system can quiet down. Parents need to learn the techinques of child centered play to empower the child to play out what is troubling them. I will be posting different techiniques and suggestions for parents to help you build a greater connection to your children and most importantly have fun with them! Laugh, play and love!

We just want to introduce ourselves to all of you. We are mothers who were sick of barrettes always falling out of our daughters hair. We remembered the braided barrettes we made in the 80's and put our creativity to a test. We have been in business for 13 months and have sold over 3,ooo barrettes. We sell barrettes, headbands, clips, create-keppie kits, party packs and apparel. As a child therapist and graphic designer, we knew that Keppies "were not just a barrette." These barrettes began to have so much meaning. We live in a critical world that affects children's self esteem. We wanted these Keppies to help recognize the strengths in girls and build their self-esteem. Our Keppies parties are about mothers recognizing the strengths they see in their daughters and daughters recognizong the strengths they see in their mothers. Nothing else is out there that truly cherish's and acknowledges the special gift of friendship and mother/daughter connections.
